Relevance of the research topic. Since the end of the 20th century, significant shifts have been noted in society in understanding the equality of potential opportunities for men and women, attitudes towards it, its legal support in a post-industrial society. To a large extent, this concerns access to economic, political and educational resources. In the 21st century, the formation of the personality of a woman and a man, gender balance in society are among the most important strategies for the development of European states.
Compliance with the requirements of an impartial attitude to the individual, regardless of gender, is now perceived as an integral part of democratic transformations and the sustainable development of any society. The problem of equality in any area cannot be considered outside of law, since it is law that is understood as equally the freedom of everyone and everyone – both men and women.
This work is a study of one of the most difficult problems in the language — the characteristics of male and female speech. The question of the influence of a person’s gender on their language has attracted researchers for a long time, but many aspects still require additional research. Thus, in particular, scientific publications do not consistently and unambiguously interpret the theoretical foundations of language differentiation according to the gender of the speaker, highlight the correspondence between the speech gender and the physical gender of the speaker, and consider the influence of various sociocultural factors on gender speech characteristics. Therefore, in the work it is advisable to try to generalize the existing theories of the gender characteristics of the English language and present evidence or refutation of these theories based on existing literary texts.
The relevance of the topic we have chosen is determined by the increased interest in studying this problem abroad, and the noticeably growing interest in this set of problems in domestic linguistics.
The degree of development of the topic. Many scientific works in the field of linguistics are devoted to the topic chosen by us, which confirms the importance of the phenomenon we are studying due to the relevance of revealing the gender characteristics of male and female behavior, which contributes to an adequate understanding of the semantic content of works, the disclosure of the author’s intention and their ways of implementation.
The theoretical basis of the work was the provisions of a number of scientists (M.N. Gordeev, A.V. Kirilin, L.V. Stepanova, D. Tannen, I.I. Khalaev, A.A. Grigoryan and others).

Заключение:
The gender characteristics of speech largely depend on socio-cultural and economic components — from the availability of education to the development of the institution of marriage and family values. With the development of equality in the English- and Russian-speaking countries, the “female” and “male” languages also changed. In addition, it is important to note that all the above characteristics of the gender characteristics of speech cannot be equally applicable to all women and men, and the speaker’s gender does not always correspond to the physical gender.
An analysis of the film «Green book» showed that the gender characteristics of the speech of male characters are the use of rude statements (Tony), lack of emotion (Don Shirley). The female character Dolores is shown as a typical caring and loving mother and wife. Dolores uses imperative sentences mainly in the process of communication. She addresses the interlocutor with a request and suggestions. Men in the film use imperative sentences differently. They give orders and issue prohibitions and permits.
The analysis of the speech of the characters of the series «The Big Bang Theory» showed that male and female characters have their own characteristics:
— female characters are emotional;
— male characters are more characterized by brevity in statements, secrecy.
The emotionality of a female character is manifested in the use of emotionally evaluative adjectives. The emotionality of men is manifested in the use of interjections.

Chapter 1. Theoretical and Historical context of the study of linguistic differences between men and women
1.1. The essence of the concept of gender
Nowadays there is a huge number of linguistic approaches which helps to analyze different speeches and conversations. These scientific principles of language learning include such categories as ethics, age, gender, which were previously recognized as related to biological aspects. It so often happens that in modern analyses, gender studies include everything related to the distinctions between male and female. The importance of such concepts as “gender” and “sex” should not be overlooked for modern gender studies both in linguistics and in other sciences. Hence, it should be said that the term “gender” appeared in science, which in further studies helped in describing socio-cultural as well as psychological features that are associated with traits, roles and stereotypes that society characterized for male and female. It was Anne Oakley who determined in the 70s of the 20th century that the biological differences between men and women are studied by “sex”, however, the term “gender” is suitable exclusively for describing social phenomena – these two concepts should not be confused [Oakley 2015]. And this actually became the beginning of gender studies in science, namely in sociolinguistics.
Until recently, such an aspect as gender was left out of study by scientists as a factor on which the speech of women and men depends, which is why such a term as gender linguistics is considered new in its kind. This direction studies the manifestation of differences in language and speech in representatives of two different sexes. The initial gender-oriented works originate back in the 60s in the West and continue to the present. The first notes in this direction were formed on the basis of Germanic and Romance language groups, from which scientists recorded the following features: firstly, stereotypes of femininity and masculinity
