The development of the nationalist movement in the colonial countries, as well as the active activity of postcolonial intellectual theorists, have been equally important for determining the shape and outlines of the postcolonial world since 1945. R. Kipling’s novel “Kim” is rarely considered as one of the pretexts of “Midnight’s Children” by S. Rushdie. Rushdie himself expressed in a 1990 essay rather harsh judgments about Kipling’s minor prose, finding in his stories «racial fanaticism», contrived plots, the invention of a non-existent adverb, a condescending attitude towards Indian heroes. The accuracy of their image is also noted. In his vision of India, Rushdie, obviously from the position of postcolonial discourse, polemics with Kipling, who declares his belief that India can never remain alone without British leadership and ridicules the attempts of Indians to assimilate the excellent culture of England .
