Введение:
The study of
the category of expressiveness in linguistic research lies within the
boundaries of the anthropocentric approach, which is due to the manifestations
of emotional and evaluative subjectivity in text and speech. The expressive
component in speech invariably affects the style of the created text or speech;
through it, one can trace the subjective attitude of a person to reality. In
language as a system, expressiveness manifests itself at various levels, which
indicates a direct connection between language and thinking, since in this
case, the peculiarities of the perception of the world of a particular person
are transmitted by language means. Sports discourse in general and sports
blogs in particular are characterized by their stylistic expressiveness, since
sports has a pronounced competitive spirit. Alongside with the inherent
subjective evaluation of blogs, texts of this type are replete with
expressiveness and pronounced emotionality. The relevance of the topic of
this research is due, first of all, to the modern scientific interest in the
human factor in language: the fact that the anthropocentric nature of modern
linguistics is considered from various angles, including stylistics. By
studying the features of the manifestation of expressive components in the
text, a conclusion is made concerning the principles of verbalization of
emotions and subjective evaluation in language. The object
of this research is expressiveness in the context of linguistics. The
subject of this research is the features of expressiveness in English
sports blogs. The objective
of the research is to identify the features of expressiveness in English sports
blogs. The following tasks should be solved to achieve the objective:
1. Consider
the features of expressiveness from the point of view of linguistics;
2. Reveal
the principles of manifestation of expressiveness at different levels of the
language;
3. Establish
the characteristic features of sports discourse;
4. Analyze
the features of the manifestation of expressiveness at the lexical and
syntactic levels;
5. Describe
the potential for practical application of the research results. The source of the research is sports blogs
dedicated to Formula 1 motorsport. The research methodology
includes the following methods:
— Analysis
of research literature on the topic of the work, generalization of the points
of view of scientists on the problems of this thesis;
— The
method of continuous sampling under the formation of the corpus of examples;
— Classification
method in identifying the principles of manifestation of expressiveness;
— Descriptive
method under considering the essence of expressiveness in the identified
examples;
— Method
of quantitative analysis to identify the most characteristic models of
expressiveness for sports blogs. The theoretical base of the
research includes the works of scientists on the problems of language
stylistics and on the problems of studying sports discourse. The following scientists considered the
problems of language stylistics: I. V. Arnold; N. D. Arutyunova; I. V.
Bondarenko; A. N. Veselovsky; I. R. Galperin; G. F. Kovalenko; O. A. Melnichuk;
V. P. Moskvin; B. Toshovich; I. I. Turansky; V. I. Shakhovsky; F. Baider; A.
Trotzke and others. The following scientists considered the
problems of discourse and sports discourse: A. B. Zilbert; V. I. Karasik; A. A.
Kibrik; K. V. Panteeva; K. V. Snyatkov; E. E. Tarasova; E. P. Filimonova; N.
Fairclough;S. Strauss and others. The theoretical significance of
the research is explained by its direct correlation with the anthropocentric
approach to linguistics. Since in the course of the research the central
problem is the study of ways of expressiveness in texts, the int is the
principles of verbalization of emotions and subjective assessment in modern
English. The practical significance of
the research lies in the fact that the results obtained can be applied in a
wide range of humanities. First of all, it is stylistics: the category of
expressiveness directly correlates with the stylistic coloring of the text, it
manifests itself in written texts mainly through the expressive potential of
the language. Moreover, the results of the research can also be applied in
lexicology, since the formation of expressiveness in sports discourse is
largely observed precisely at the lexical level of the language, using
different stylistic devices, taking into account the compatibility and usage of
lexical units. Furthermore, the results obtained can be applied in the teaching
of modern English linguistics in various aspects, with an emphasis on the
anthropocentricity of the research. The structure of the research is
determined by its objective and tasks. The thesis consists of introduction,
three chapters, conclusion, references and appendix. The first chapter discusses the
theoretical aspects of the research: the phenomenon of expressiveness in
linguistics, ways of verbalizing expressiveness, as well as the features of sports
discourse. The second chapter analyzes the
examples of expressiveness in sports discourse at the lexical and syntactic
levels of the language. The third chapter assesses the
potential for practical application of the results obtained during the research.
Заключение:
To sum up,
expressiveness is a category of language and speech, the psychophysiological
basis of which is human emotions and feelings; the general content of this
category can be formulated as a linguistic expression by the speaker of
emotions, feelings, attitudes, emotional evaluation in order to influence the
communication partner. Moreover, this category is represented by multi-level
system-linguistic units and speech means. Furthermore, the result of the
functional implementation of expressiveness in speech is the effect of
emotional impact, or expression; the category under study has a
functional-pragmatic orientation as well as a functional-semantic aspect. The fact is that expressiveness can be
systematically verbalized in a language indicates its scope in the context of
linguistic studies.
Sports discourse is an institutional discourse, which, having its own
distinctive features, is also characterized by the presence of direct and
indirect connotative links with military and political discourses. This
connection is due to the fact that these types of discourse are based on
competitiveness, which is reflected in the lexical level of the listed
discourses. The analysis of the source texts has
demonstrated that expressiveness at the lexical level in the texts of English
sports blogs is achieved by means of various stylistic devices. Most often,
metaphors and epithets are used to form expressiveness, which is due to the
peculiarities of their style and semantics, as well as the expressive potential
in the structure of the language. The use of hyperbolas is associated with the
need to emphasize the exceptional nature of the phenomena described.
Expressiveness at the syntactic level is achieved by the presence of a large
number of various syntactic stylistic devices that affect the expressiveness of
the texts of English sports blogs. All of them are characterized by a
difference in structure, however, they are able to convey the evaluative and
emotive semantics typical of stylistic expressiveness. Quantitative analysis has shown a
significant predominance of metaphor at the lexical level of the language for
the formation of expressiveness. Such a prevalence of metaphors in sports
discourse is characterized, first of all, by the fact that they create vivid
associative-motivated images. In the course of the analysis, it was proved that
the metaphors of sports discourse most often correlate with military and
political discourse. This feature is explained by the semantics of images
formed within the boundaries of sports discourse. The stylistic potential of
epithets in forming expressiveness lies in the fact that they directly reflect
the subjective-evaluative and emotive components of meaning. With the help of
epithets, the point of view of the author of the text regarding the problem he
describes is most fully reflected. Within the syntactic level, it has shown the
prevalence of antithesis. Its higher distribution among other syntactic
stylistic devices is due to the fact that this stylistic device allows to
create bright holistic images. In fact, due to antithesis, the expressiveness
of the text is significantly increased, especially if stylistically marked
lexical units are used there.
The research has a
wide potential for implementation in stylistic research, as it allowed to
characterize the features of the expression of expressiveness in sports
discourse on the material of blogs. Taking into account the peculiarities of
the source and the distinctive features of this discourse, it is possible to confidently
claim that the sports discourse is replete with stylistic means that express
expressiveness. The results of the research can be
introduced into the lexicology of modern English. In view of the systematic
nature of linguistic research, it has been proved that expressiveness actively
manifests itself at the lexical level as well. This is expressed within
lexicology in the presence of expressively colored words in the language. The
expressiveness of lexical units can increase significantly if they are used not
in a direct, but in a figurative sense. The results of this research can be
applied to teaching English. The role of language stylistics cannot be
overestimated in the full development of a foreign language, as it allows you
to convey shades of meaning, emotions and other implicitly implied components
of semantics.

CHAPTER 1. THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF STUDYING EXPRESSIVENESS 1.1 Expressiveness as a Linguistic Phenomenon The term
"expressiveness" is found in the literature on general and particular
linguistics of the 20th — 21st centuries, as well as in interdisciplinary works
on psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, linguoculturology and other areas of
scientific research (ethics, aesthetics, anthropology, literary criticism,
semiotics) [35]. The steady interest of
scientists in this topic is due to the heterogeneous nature of the object of
study: expressiveness is associated with the emotional perception of reality by
a person and its reflection in language, with the manifestation of human subjectivity,
emotional consciousness in language and speech, with cultural characteristics
and emotional intelligence of native speakers, etc. [10]. It is updated not only in speech, but also in
extralinguistic aspects of communication (facial expressions, gestures,
postures, movements) [15]. Expressiveness in
linguistics is understood as the expressive power of an utterance [66], as its ability to objectify subjective experiences,
human relations; "a set of semantic and stylistic features of a language
unit that ensure its ability to act in a communicative act as a means of
subjective expression of the speaker’s attitude to the content or addressee of
speech" [32, p. 591]. Ch. Bally was the first to
substantiate the need to study subjective semantic "layers" in the
language and pointed out their stylistic potential [7]. The starting point in his stylistic concept is the
idea of human affectivity: “Affectivity is a natural and spontaneous expression
of the subjective forms of human thinking: it is inextricably linked with our
feelings, desires, aspirations and value judgments, being … an external
expression of the interest that we experience in real life» [7, p. 98]. In
relation to the linguistic embodiment of affectivity, the author uses the term
"expressiveness" and means by it a semantic coloring, which includes
specific concepts — emotional, social coloring, methods of intensification and
figurativeness, i.e. all sorts of tricks of trope motivation [cited: 26].
