CHAPTER 1. PECULIARITIES OF THE COMPLEX OBJECT AND THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF TEACHING ENGLISH GRAMMAR
1.1 Definition of the Complex Object in English
Like any language system, a foreign language is a socio-historical product that reflects the history, culture and system of values and traditions of people. Anyone who has studied English will have come (faces with) structures that seem strange and illogical at first glance, such as: I want her to come.
One of the most studied of the secondary prepositional structures is the binomial prepositional structure, known in normative grammar as the complex binomial. There are several interpretations of this structure.
First, the Complex Object is considered to be a three-member structure with a so-called ‘object-accusative’ member [34, p. 36]. It is well known that complex binomial constructions are complex linguistic combinations of binomials and qualifying adjuncts. Constructions, such as see a smile, make him cry, etc., belong to such word combinations, while words — the basis of word combinations — belong to the so-called ‘closed’ vocabulary list. The first additional word — binomial — can be represented in this combination by a noun, a substantive pronoun or a combination of substantive (rarely pronoun) words.
The second additional word — the qualifying article — can be expressed by a word-form, a compound word or a single word form of a qualifying article that can be used as a simple verb in an oral combination. For example, it can be a combination of nouns or real words, adjectives or adjectival words, etc.
Secondly, two concepts are distinguished in science and literature — complex objects and objective predicates [Ibid, p. 55]. In the case of sentence containing a Complex Object, the noun part and the epithet component can form a whole, which necessarily lies in the object relation of the verb and is equivalent in meaning to the subordinate clause, although it may not be replaced by it in all cases.
Compound addition is a very characteristic phenomenon in English, and only one subordinate clause is needed for translation into Russian. All other attempts are doomed to failure, but in the meantime, it is not so difficult to understand
